Ontario reports highest daily COVID-19 cases since June; 94 in Mississauga and Brampton

The province is reporting 689 new cases of COVID-19 today, August 21 (up 39 from yesterday) and one new death (down one from yesterday), with the seven-day average rising to 534.

This is the province’s most cases since June 5, when it reported 774 cases.

There are 94 new cases in Peel (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon), 69 in Hamilton, 36 in Durham, 28 in Halton, and 18 in Niagara.

Health Minister Christine Elliott reports that 212 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 (not including ICU admissions), of which 189 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status, and 23 are fully vaccinated.

130 people are in ICU, of which 123 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status, and seven are fully vaccinated.

20,433,440 vaccine doses have been administered in Ontario to date, with nearly 82.1% of Ontarians 12+ having one dose and 74.6% having two doses.
