A majority First Nation-owned construction company has “significantly” bumped up its equipment fleet and deepened its operational expertise with the acquisition if Broz Excavating, a leader on the excavation and civil construction sector.

The purchase of Broz by Voyageur Services Ltd, which is owned by Noozhoo Nokiiyan LP, an economic development corporation of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, allows the management team at Voyageur to “sharpen its focus” on the recently formed Power Sector Division, while broadening its service offerings.

“This acquisition represents a significant milestone in our vision for sustainable First Nation economic development, empowering communities while delivering exceptional infrastructure solutions,” said Mississaugas of Scugog Island Chief Kelly LaRocca.

Voyageur, which was founded just four years ago, has already earned several major contracts with Ontario Power Generation, including site preparation work at the Darlington nuclear plant for the small modular reactor project, a water treatment project – also at Darlington – and dredging work at the nearby Pickering nuclear plant.

The experienced management team from Broz Excavating will be retained – including Broz Excavating founder and president Steve Brough – and the company will now operate as a standalone division of Voyageur Services known as Voyageur Infrastructure Services.
