Ongoing problems delay opening of spray pads again at these parks in Mississauga

Two spray pads installed at parks in Mississauga’s north end three years ago will again be late opening to the public this spring and summer as they continue to have problems that make them unsafe to use.

The spray pads at Lisgar Green and Meadowvale Rotary Park “are undergoing repairs at the start of the 2026 season to address a safety concern related to the concrete floor,” City of Mississauga Ward 10 Coun. Sue McFadden said in a notice to the community late this week.

Installed in 2022, both spray pads “have endured multiple repairs, including a water supply line issue that delayed the opening of the pads last spring,” the councillor continued. “Over the three years since opening, the concrete at the spray pads has developed significant cracking, making the pads unsafe for use. The city is investigating the cause of the cracking and is moving as quickly as possible to complete repairs so children can safely enjoy the spray pads this summer.”

In the interest of public safety, the city has temporarily fenced off and closed the spray pads at both parks “until repairs are complete and the pads are safe and ready for use.”

The repair work is expected to be completed by mid‑June at Lisgar Green and by the end of June at Meadowvale Rotary Park, subject to weather conditions, McFadden said.

“Safety is our top priority, and this work is being undertaken now to ensure the spray pads are safe, reliable and available for use for many years to come,” she added.

Spray pads at both of the north Mississauga parks were also among several such facilities across the city that were delayed in opening to residents last spring.

Of the 34 spray pads at parks throughout Mississauga, 28 opened to the public on time in mid-to-late May in 2025 while the others were delayed for various reasons/repairs.

Work to repair the water supply to the spray pad at Lisgar Green didn’t begin last year until early July.

And repairs to both Lisgar Green and Meadowvale Rotary Park spray pads at the end of last summer were supposed to complete the work so there would be no delays in opening the facilities this spring.
