3 splash pads will soon reopen in Mississauga to help people beat the heat

Three spray pads in Mississauga will soon reopen to help kids — and people of all ages — stay cool during summer and have some water fun at the same time.

Meanwhile, three other such locations closed for renovations and other work are on tap to open later this summer and into the fall, City of Mississauga officials say.

Of the 34 spray pads at parks throughout the city, 28 opened to the public for the summer months in mid-to-late May.

Splash pads on schedule to reopen sooner rather than later are located at Burnhamdale Park and Forest Glen, where work began in April and is to be completed by July 25, in addition to Lisgar Green (expected to reopen earlier in July).

Ward 10 Coun. Sue McFadden said in her latest newsletter to the community that “work to repair the water supply to the spray pad at Lisgar Green park is expected to take place the first week of July.”

She added that following several delays in obtaining the required ground clearances, work was to begin on July 2.

“The city’s parks general maintenance team will ensure surface patchwork at the spray pad is completed immediately following the underground work so the pad can open to the public for the rest of the summer.”

McFadden said city crews will then return at the end of the summer splash pad season “to undertake remaining repairs to both Lisgar Green and Meadowvale Rotary spray pads. This avoids a longer closure during the 2025 peak spray pad use and ensures the pads are fixed and ready to open on time next spring.”

The three spray pad locations to reopen later are at:

• Friendship Community Park (work slated for May 12 until Sept. 1)
• Fr. Angelos Saad Park (work slated for June 23 until Oct. 10)
• Clarkson Community Centre (work slated for June 9 until September)

Also, city officials said, splash pads at Pheasant Run and Jack Darling Memorial parks have reopened after being shut down earlier for repair works.

Celebration Square’s popular fountain and wading pool in Mississauga’s downtown core have been open for the summer for more than a month.

The splash pads and Celebration Square amenities have become popular spring and summer cooling-off spots over the years for many Mississauga residents looking to escape the heat on hot days.

A particular hit with kids, the spray pads across the city and Celebration Square’s wading pool are open throughout the spring and summer well into September. The spray pads open daily at 9 a.m.

Spray pads in parks across the city will remain open until September, as long as the weather cooperates, the city said earlier.

The Celebration Square wading pool is open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. each day until Labour Day in early September. After Labour Day, it will shut down each night at 8 p.m.
