The majestic Bald Eagle is one of 10 finalists to be named Burlington's official city bird.

A local organization wants to make Burlington and Hamilton official Bird Friendly cities and is asking for your help to get there.

The next step on the road to the designation is choosing a City Bird for both cities.

The list has been narrowed down to 10, and here are the options for Burlington:

Bald Eagle

Black-capped Chickadee

Carolina Wren

Chimney Swift

Eastern Bluebird

Great Blue Heron

Mourning Dove

Northern Cardinal

Trumpeter Swan

Turkey Vulture

If you live, work or go to school in Burlington, you can vote here.

More information about each of the birds is available here.

The Bird Friendly Hamilton Burlington (BFHB) team was founded in 2020. Bird Friendly City is a certification program developed by Nature Canada. The goal of the program is to certify cities all over Canada as bird friendly.

So far, four Canadian cities have earned one of the three levels of certification, Toronto and London with High, Vancouver with Intermediate and Calgary with Entry.

BFHB hopes to gain certification for both Hamilton and Burlington (the applications are separate) this year.

Once achieved, the certification is monitored annually and may be downgraded or even removed if continued efforts aren’t made to improve bird-friendly conditions in each municipality.
