One of Mississauga’s premier outdoor festivals has come to an end.

The Waterfront Festival, which served as an unofficial harbinger of summer every June since 1996 in Port Credit, will no longer operate.

In a message posted on Facebook, festival organizers bid farewell saying it had been a great run.

“As we bid goodbye to the Mississauga Waterfront Festival we wish to thank all of our volunteers, board members, sponsors, vendors and most of all you – the members of our community that enjoyed the festival for all these years. Thanks for the memories,” reads the post.

Held at Port Credit Memorial Park, the festival attracted thousands of people each year who enjoyed a variety of food and attractions geared for the family.

The festival also brought out top entertainment with such Canadian acts as April Wine, Tom Cochrane and Jim Cuddy, among others.

“It’s heartbreaking for me and a lot of people in the community that the Waterfront Festival…after 25 years plus have decided to call it a day,” said Mississauga Ward 1 Councillor Stephen in his video blog. “It really is the first big event at Memorial Park each year.”

The last time the Waterfront Festival took place was in 2009 with the pandemic cancelling the event the past two years.
