A Mississauga woman and one of Canada’s most-wanted fugitives sought in the 2024 stabbing death of a Montreal teen during a car theft in Richmond Hill has been arrested in Calgary, police say.

Katherine Bergeron-Pinzarrone, 28, who twice appearred on the BOLO Program’s 25 Most Wanted in Canada list, was taken into custody by Calgary Police on July 9 after nearly two years on the run, York Regional Police said.

The Mississauga woman, who’d been wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant since shortly after the Aug. 8, 2024 killing of a 16-year-old boy from Montreal, faces a charge of second-degree murder.

Homicide detectives with York police said they’ve been “actively working the investigation” and partnered with the BOLO Program and, more recently, police in Calgary in efforts to locate the suspect.

“This arrest marks an important step in seeking justice for the victim and his family and reflects our ongoing commitment to holding those responsible for violent crime accountable,” York police Deputy Chief Ryan Hogan said in a news release.

At around 6 a.m. on Aug. 8, 2024, police were called to a hospital in York after a 16-year-old boy, later identified as being from Montreal, arrived at the emergency department suffering from a stab wound. The teen was pronounced dead a short time later.

Some four months after the killing, York homicide detectives on the trail of the Mississauga woman, who was also known to live in Quebec, partnered with the nationwide BOLO Program in stepped-up efforts to find her.

The BOLO Program, which takes its name from the popular police term “be on the lookout,” leverages social media, technology and “innovative engagement” to raise awareness about wanted people and encourage citizens to be on the lookout for Canada’s most-wanted suspects.

It was developed in partnership with police forces across Canada and Crime Stoppers programs.

Bergeron-Pinzarrone was No. 8 on the latest 25 most-wanted list, which was released last October. She was No. 7 on the previous list released in December 2024.

Police would still like to speak to anyone with relevant information about the case. Anyone with information is urged to call York homicide investigators at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7865, email them at [email protected], or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
