COVID-19 positivity rates are up across all of Ontario, with one Mississauga postal code in the province’s top 50 for highest COVID-19 positivity.
Toronto-based research group ICES listed the top 50 postal codes in Ontario with high COVID-19 positivity for the week of Jan. 2 to 8.
One is in Mississauga: Postal code L4X, which is reporting 38.04% positivity.
L4X has the 38th highest COVID-19 positivity in Ontario.
According to ICES, Ontario’s overall positivity for the week of Jan. 2 to 8 was 25.6%, with at least 500 postal codes reporting positivity of 10% or higher.
ICES also says case counts reported since December 31, 2021 represent an underestimate of the true number of individuals with COVID-19, due to changes in eligibility for SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing.
Peel Region has also updated its interactive map, showing a high number of new hotspots in Mississauga.
According to Peel, the map shows a crude incidence rate defined as the total number of new cases within a specific time period divided by the total population and multiplied by 100,000.
For the week of Jan. 2 to 8, 3,100 new cases were reported in Mississauga, and 6,768 were reported for Peel overall.
