One person is dead and another man is in critical condition after a tragic house fire in Napanee on Saturday.
Napanee firefighters were already battling the fire on Switzerville Road shortly before 9:30 p.m. when police arrived and reported that three people were trapped in the house. A 59-year-old man escaped by jumping from a second-floor balcony and was taken to hospital with critical injuries. A 34-year-old man was also able to escape the smoke and flames and was not seriously hurt.
A 65-year-old man was trapped inside and police said human remains were found inside the house by firefighters.
All three men were residents of the home.
A postmortem examination will be conducted to confirm the identity.
Firefighters remained on the scene overnight and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
