Peel Region just started testing three public beaches in Mississauga and one already has health and safety concerns.

The timing couldn’t be worse. Summer officially starts this week (June 21) and the forecast calls for sweltering hot weather feeling like 44C.

Many people might be looking for a place to cool off and there are three public beaches in Mississauga — Jack Darling Memorial Park, 1180 Lakeshore Rd. W.; A.E. Crookes Park, 140 Lakefront Promenade; and Richard’s Memorial Park, 804 Lakeshore Rd. W.

Unfortunately, Richard’s Memorial Park currently has a warning, advising the public against swimming as it could pose a risk to health, according to The Region of Peel.

Peel Region tests the beach water for high levels of bacteria, which could make swimmers sick with diarrhea, skin rashes, ear pain, cough or congestion, and/or ear pain.

Beaches can reach high levels of bacteria through heavy rainfall, large numbers of water birds, high winds or wave activity, or a large number of swimmers.

Region of Peel started beach testing on June 8, and it continues until September.
