Officers monitor Ajax school after allegedly armed suspect spotted on grounds

Durham Region Police are monitoring the area around an Ajax public school after a search for an armed suspect spotted on school property.
DRPS announced via twitter around 11:45 that they had placed several schools on a hold and secure order in the Rossland Road and Harkins Drive for a police investigation.

Minutes later the Durham District School Board confirmed that A.G. Bell Public School had been placed on lockdown and other nearby schools, such as Pickering High were on hold and secure.
By noon police announced they had searched the area for a suspicious man they believe may have been armed. A search of the area around the school did not find him.

DDSB later confirmed that the safety order had been lifted by 12:06.
