The Oakville Transit strike is over.

Buses will be rolling again on Friday after members of Unifor Local 1256 ratified a new collective agreement on Thursday.

Bringing an end to the two-week strike by drivers and mechanics that began on Feb. 17.

“My congratulations to Oakville Transit workers for standing up to the employer to win gains that will improve working conditions and benefits,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National Secretary-Treasurer.

Transit service in the region will resume on Friday.

The new agreement negotiated by the Town of Oakville and workers includes a 2 per cent wage increase in each of the three years of the contract.

A total of 27 positions will also be converting to full-time status, while benefits coverage will increase and mental health coverage in the plan will also be expanding.

“These are no small gains. The new collective agreement is a terrific example that solidarity and collective action gets results,” said Alice Kelly, President of Unifor Local 1256.
