Kerr St. Village could be in for a face lift.

Oakville Town Council is asking staff, as part of its 2023 Capital Budget process, to look into the revitalization of the popular shopping area as well as Lakeshore West.

Recommendations on completing the streetscaping projects would look into the proposed timeline, the required studies, consultation, infrastructure assessments, design, and construction.

Council, which unanimously approved the motion put forward by Ward 2 Councillor Ray Chisholm, also wants the report to include proposed timelines and budget requirements for Bronte Road and Lakeshore Road West in Bronte Village and for the remaining streets included in the Downtown Transportation and Streetscape Study.

The work would be done in recognition of Kerr Village being one of the town’s growth areas, an important destination for residents and the important role it plays in Oakville’s urban structure and community fabric.

A reconstruction and streetscaping project was completed in 2020 in downtown Oakville on Lakeshore Rd., from Navy St. to Allen St.

Council said a similar revitalization to Kerr St. would provide continuity and connections between the Kerr and downtown areas, as well as project a strong Oakville identity.
