Oakville’s Liam Bruce and James Juhasz are setting sail on the world stage next week.

Bruce, a member of the Port Credit Yacht Club, and Juhasz, a member of the Bronte Harbour Yacht Club, are two of nine athletes representing Canada at the International Laser Class Association 7 Men’s World Championships taking place May 23-28 at Riviera Nayarit in Mexico.

The Oakville duo join a national team that also includes Canadian Sailing Team member Tom Ramshaw, fellow Sail Canada development members Ryan Anderson, Fillah Karim, Luke Ruitenberg and Forrest Wachholz, as well as Canadian athletes Ben Flower and Norman Struthers.

Karim is looking forward to competing at these championships after being the top Canadian at French Olympic Week in Hyères, France at the end of April, where he finished the competition in 28th position, his best finish in his career.

“It’s also been good to see the evolution of the Canadian scene in ILCA 7 since the last World Championships in Barcelona in November,” said Karim. “We have so many young athletes who have pushed so hard, and I can’t wait to see them shine on the world stage in Mexico.”
