Numerous temperature records broken across southern Ontario

Numerous high-temperature records were broken across southern Ontario yesterday.

As expected the temperature soared yesterday (March 4) in many cities across the province breaking records that had been in place for many years, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

This follows record-breaking high-temperature days in December and February.

Yesterday, some areas broke the previous record by more than 7 C.

Here are some of the areas that saw temperature records smashed:

  • Brampton area – New record of 16.6 C,  old record of 13.3 C set in 1974, records in this area have been kept since 1914
  • Caledon area – New record of 16.4 C,  old record of 8.9 C set in 1889, records in this area have been kept since 1887
  • Hamilton area – New record of 20.9 C, old record of 15.6 C set in 1974, records in this area have been kept since 1866
  • Mississauga area – New record of 16.6 C, old record of 13.3 C set in 1974, records in this area have been kept since 1937
  • Oshawa area – New record of 16.2 C, old record of 11.1 C set in 1956, records in this area have been kept since 1882
  • Pickering area – New record of 16.2 C, old record of 10 C set in 1973, records in this area have been kept since 1915
  • Port Perry area – New record of 15.9 C, old record of 10 C set in 1964,  records in this area have been kept since 1905
  • Welland area – New record of 21.6 C,  Old record of 15.6 C set in 1966, records in this area have been kept since 1872
  • Whitby area –  New record of 16.2 C, old record of 10 C set in 1973, records in this area have been kept since 1947
