Halton police are investigating reports of a Burlington park being vandalized with hate symbols.

According to Mayor Marianne Meed Ward, Norton Park, located at the corner of Tim Dobbie Dr. and Dundas St. in north Burlington, was vandalized with swastikas.

“My office was alerted to Norton Park having been vandalized with swastikas,” wrote Meed Ward on Twitter.

“Halton Police is investigating and City staff is removing it. Hate symbols are reprehensible and have absolutely no place in #BurlON. Thank you to the residents who reported this to police and the City.”

The park is located in across the street from the building that contains Dr. Frank J. Hayden Secondary School, Haber Recreation Centre and the Alton branch of the Burlington Public Library.

The facility features two artificial turf fields, a basketball court, skateboard park, playground with splashpad, and leash free area.

A police spokesperson said the swastikas were on a sidewalk near the the skatepark and had appeared to be there for several weeks.

Anyone with information is asked to call Halton police at 905-825-4777.
