Mississauga’s Bianca Andreescu will have to wait another day before setting off on what she hopes will be a deep run at Wimbledon.

The 23-year-old Andreescu was scheduled to take on Hungary’s Anna Bondar in first-round action earlier today (July 4), but the match, along with others, was rained out.

Andreescu, who has fallen to No. 51 on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles circuit from No. 27 earlier this year, will now go up against Bondar (WTA No. 109) in a match scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Mississauga native has been inconsistent in her play for well over a year now as she tries to get back among the elite in women’s tennis.

She lost in round of 16 action at a Wimbledon tune-up tournament last week in Germany.

Andreescu was eliminated from Wimbledon last year in the second round. Heading into play there in 2022, she was ranked No. 56 in the world.
