There is no reason for visitors to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Thursday, April 25 to panic: It’s only a drill.

Halton Healthcare, in partnership with the Region of Halton, Oakville Fire Department, Halton police, Halton paramedics and the Town of Oakville, will be participating in a mock Emergency Preparedness Exercise to practice the response to a Code Orange.

The hospital would call a Code Orange in the event of a disaster that may increase the number of patients received in the Emergency Department.

“Exercises like this enable our hospital staff and physicians to practice, review and improve our Code Orange (disaster) plan, so that we are always ready to care for our community,” said a spokesperson from Halton Healthcare.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m. patients and visitors may notice increased activity at the hospital.

All activity and clinics will operate as normal and the Emergency Department will be open during this exercise. Patient care and wait times will not be affected.
