The fight against the ArriveCAN app to cross into Canada is continuing by border mayors.

Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati, who recently announced he’s running for re-election, said while he applauds the federal government for finally lifting the COVID-19 vaccine mandates at border crossings, he still considers the continued use of the ArriveCAN app to be the larger detriment.

The federal government just announced all COVID-19 vaccine mandates at the border would be lifted Monday (June 20).

Diodati told a local radio station that it was a “half-step” in the right direction bit that it was ignoring the larger issue.

“It’s the ArriveCan App requirement at the borders. It’s an absolute nightmare and it is getting worse by the day.”

For several months, local officials such as Diodati, Niagara Falls MP Tony Baldinelli, as well as councils in Fort Erie and Niagara Falls having been asking the government to drop ArriveCAN. The Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce made the same request on Monday.

Diodati said the app is causing massive delays at the land borders, especially among Americans who don’t know of the app or are having troubles figuring it out.
