When the lottery terminal at the store completely shut down while checking his ticket, Peter Dixon of Niagara Falls couldn’t understand what was going on.

Fortunately for Dixon, it didn’t mean a power outage. It meant he won a large prize, which turned out to be a cool $1 million.

Winning the LOTTO 6/49 prize in the Gold Ball Draw on Sept. 23, Dixon was dumbfounded. “I’ve been a regular lottery player for over 15 years. This is my first big win,” he said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.

“I was at the store checking my tickets and the lottery terminal shut down. I had no idea what was going on. When I noticed the prize amount, I was in complete disbelief!”

Of course, Dixon had to convince his son that he wasn’t making it up as he didn’t believe him at first. “He was so happy for me.”

He plans to invest his win for retirement and maybe purchase a vehicle. “It’s still so unbelievable. I don’t think I’ve fully accepted it yet,” Peter concluded.

The winning ticket was purchased at Avondale on Dorchester Road in Niagara Falls.
