Niagara Falls man busted on weapons charges

An adult male was found with a large laceration on top of his head when Niagara Police responded to a disturbance call at a house in the Bridge Street and Homewood Avenue area yesterday (July 7) in Niagara Falls.

The victim was immediately treated by EMS and taken to the closest hospital.

Before long, the police determined that a firearm was involved and quickly got a warrant to search the house. That resulted in finding a pump action shotgun and ammunition.

Layton Stevens, 37, of Niagara Falls has been charged with assault with a weapon causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon, pointing a firearm and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

He is being held for a bail hearing scheduled to take place today (July 8) at the courthouse in St. Catharines.
