Light up the sky because Niagara Falls is the most photographed waterfall on Instagram with over 3.5 million hashtags.

When it comes to Instagram posts, it’s no contest which waterfall in the world is the most photographed.

Niagara Falls has been hash-tagged over 3.5 million times, whereas the second-most photographed waterfall in the world – Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Zambia – only registers 308,568 Instagram posts.

According to UK-based company Travelbag, which did the study, “Niagara Falls is probably the most famous waterfall in the world, so it’s no surprise that it comes in at number one. The hashtag #NiagaraFalls has a whopping 3.5 million posts to its name, thanks to its jaw-dropping beauty.”

The website goes on to explain, “Niagara Falls is actually made up of three waterfalls that span the border between Ontario in Canada and New York in the USA. The falls can be accessed from either side of the border, but the views are more spectacular from the Canadian side.”

All hashtag data on the site is accurate as of September 12, 2022.

A natural advantage Niagara Falls has over the other nine waterfalls in the Top Ten Instagram List is its popularity as a tourist destination.

While there are some very picturesque waterfalls on the list, none has the come-see-this-with-the-family appeal of Niagara Falls.

Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Zambia is stunning but still only had the second-highest number of Instagram posts under its hashtag at 308,568.

Ranking third on the list was Iguazu Falls in Brazil and Argentina with 290,176, while two American waterfalls,
Multnomah Falls and Yosemite Falls, were in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Kawasan Falls in The Philippines pulled the number six spot, followed by Iceland’s Seljalandsfoss at number seven. Two more American waterfalls, Bridalveil Falls and Snoqualmie Falls finished eighth and ninth, with Croatia’s Plitvice Lakes National Park wrapping up the top 10.

Iguazu Falls in Brazil and Argentina finished third on Instagram posts with 290,176 hashtags.
