The eclipse wasn’t the only solar event happening in Niagara Falls today, as it has just been announced that the municipality now holds the Guinness World Record for ‘Largest gathering of people dressed as the sun.’

In collaboration with Niagara Falls Tourism, municipal representatives put out a call to get as many people involved with the event as possible a few weeks ago. Naturally, the theming of the gathering was specifically meant to coincide with today’s (April 8) massive solar eclipse.

Niagara Falls was one of the main spots in the eclipse’s path of totality (where the eclipse is most prominent), so it is no surprise that the city jumped on the opportunity to mark the special day with something a little grand.

The previous record was set in 2020 and had 287 participants, however, that record has now been smashed as 309 people were in attendance and dressed for the part. An official Guinness World Record representative was on location to oversee the event and notify the crowd of their success once the record was shattered.

It would appear Niagara Falls has seen its fair share of once-in-a-lifetime occurrences today, marking the end of the highly anticipated solar eclipse and its visit to Ontario.
