A new elementary school in Milton recently celebrated its grand opening.

Rattlesnake Point Public School, located at 1385 Kovachik Blvd., is officially open in the Town of Milton.

“Feeling so much gratitude after our first EVER day of school at Rattlesnake Point Public School! Thank you to all our staff, students, and community members for making our #HDSBFirstDay extra awesome,” said the school on Twitter.

The school was named after a park that is located on the Niagara Escarpment in Milton that is owned and operated by Conservation Halton.

According to the HDSB, the name’s origin could possibly be a reference to a time when the Massasauga rattlesnake was common in the region. It could also be due to the snake-like path cut by glaciers along the edges of the section of the Niagara Escarpment.

The three-story accessible school features 21st-century teaching layouts, air conditioning with individual classroom controls, a double gym, bus lay-by and a student drop-off area.

It is expected to accommodate over 900 students and has  five childcare rooms which will accommodate 88 students.
