New Middle Eastern restaurant open in Hannon area of Hamilton

Those who consider shawarma the fifth food group may want to go forth to sample a new Middle Eastern fast-casual restaurant that has opened in Hannon.
Smilee’s Shawarma, located at 2070 Rymal Rd. E., is the latest addition to host of halal eateries in the Hamilton area that vie to bring something distinct to serving vertical rotisserie-cultivated meats. In its social media promotion, Smilee’s is promising a “signature” take on chicken shawarma, along with serving bowls, poutines, and wraps. One of its east-meets-west menu options is a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Vegan and vegetarian options include falafel and veggie bowls (the latter with hummus for protein).
Some early enticements have included a $10.99 student special (between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.), as well as a $19.99 dinner special (two chicken shawarmas with rice). The location is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m. Smilee’s is also partnered with the UberEats delivery app.
Judging from a promotional video, Smilee’s has put some thought into having an inviting ambience for diners who want to sit down and savour their shawarma wrap. The interior includes hardwood floors and walls painted in black, red, and yellow.
