New home in the future for Brampton family after $1M lottery win

A Brampton family is looking to upgrade to a new home after winning a $1 million lottery prize.

Majeed Mohammed lives in Brampton and says he’s been playing Lotto 6/49 for nearly a decade.

The father of two from Brampton says he always plays the Encore prize after getting a tip from a retailer, and that advice finally paid off in the March 23 draw.

Mohammed matched all seven Encore numbers in the exact order, winning him a $1 million prize.

Realizing he had won came as a shock to Mohammed.

“I handed my tickets to the retailers and the terminal shut down,” he said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “He showed me I won $1 million and I couldn’t believe it.”

Mohammed said he plans to spend the prize on buying a new home for the family.

Encore offers 22 ways to win and can be played in conjunction with most lottery games for an extra $1 with a draw every day. The OLG says it supports safe play and responsible gambling through its PlaySmart program.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shell on Great Lakes Drive in Brampton.
