Construction of a one-kilometre cycling and walking trail in southeast Mississauga is set to begin this fall.

Pending final approval from Hydro One Networks Inc., which is working with the City of Mississauga on the project, work will soon begin on the Atwater Ave. to South Service Rd. asphalt trail, which will meander along the east side of the Hydro One corridor, west of Dixie Rd. in Lakeview.

City officials say the three-metre-wide trail, which will provide a new north-south connection in Mississauga, is part of the municipality’s plan to expand active recreational opportunities and provide connections to other trails, parks, bike routes and points of interest. The project has already received public support as part of the City’s updated 2018 Cycling Master Plan.

Public notifications have been sent to residents within 120 metres of the hydro corridor in advance of trail construction, officials say.

Those who want to learn more about the project can tune in to a virtual public information session tonight (Aug. 10). To participate in the session, which runs from 6:30-8 p.m., email [email protected]
