New transit bus route in Mississauga.

A new public transit bus route that takes riders to and from Dixie Outlet Mall in Mississauga’s southeast end needs several improvements, passengers and area residents have told city officials.

Complaints of infrequent service in some areas — and the resulting lengthy travel times — and poor connectivity to GO Transit top the list in terms of feedback received from the public, officials at MiWay, the city’s public transit agency, said in an online update.

MiWay’s new Route 31 Ogden began service in late December 2024 to replace the temporary Ogden Shuttle that had been in operation since last September.

A transit service rejigging in the area was needed due to ongoing construction related to the QEW that’s not expected to be completed until sometime in 2026.

The new route services Dixie Outlet Mall along Dixie Road, Lakeshore Road and Ogden Avenue via Long Branch GO Station, MiWay officials said earlier, noting the route operates seven days a week.

Ogden Avenue service that used to be offered on Route 5 Dixie has since been permanently removed from that route.

Transit officials said concerns raised by both MiWay customers and area residents include:

  • infrequent service along Ogden Avenue, resulting in long travel times due to northbound-only service
  • longer travel times for customers on Ogden Avenue to Long Branch GO station
  • poor connectivity to the GO Transit Lakeshore West Line

In an effort to improve service, MiWay officials are urging transit riders and area residents to provide additional feedback through an online survey. The survey closes April 13.

The main goal, they add, is to reduce travel times and enhance connections.

In the meantime, proposed improvements from MiWay include:

  • moving Route 4 North Service Road, Route 5 Dixie and Route 31 Ogden from the Dixie Outlet Mall terminal to the on-street bus bay on Dixie Road to improve the operational efficiency
  • having Route 5 Dixie provide streamlined routing staying on Dixie Road (instead of looping around the Dixie Outlet Mall bus terminal). New permanent bus stops will be added for Route 5 Dixie along Dixie Road to make commutes for riders easier and more convenient
  • changing routing for Route 31 Ogden — the route will be extended to service Dixie GO station from Long Branch GO station while travelling via Lakeshore Road East, Ogden Avenue, South Service Road and Dixie Road. Also, introduce all-day, two-way service along Ogden Avenue while maintaining connections to Dixie Outlet Mall and introduce new GO Transit Milton Line connection at Dixie GO station

Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation is making improvements to the QEW in east Mississauga, from east of Cawthra Road to west of Etobicoke Creek.

Construction began in May 2022, with a currently anticipated completion date of July 2026.
