Planning Committee members in Clarington are expected to sign off on a new four-storey medical clinic on the Bowmanville Medical Centre site, the next step in a vision to create a new medical campus around the Lakeridge Health Bowmanville Hospital.
Staff are recommending approval of the application from Barry Bryan Associates (on behalf of the Bowmanville Medical Centre) to “intensify” the current Bowmanville Health Centre complex with a new four-storey medical clinic on the northwest corner of the site.
Medical-related uses, including medical offices, laboratories and pharmacies, are being encouraged by Clarington Council to locate on either side of King Street between Liberty Street and Simpson Avenue to help create a medical campus around the hospital, now undergoing a major expansion.
A pre-consultation meeting with Clarington Staff happened in late 2023 but a delay in provincial prompted a revised proposal, which was submitted to town staff last month.
The new proposal does not seek to change the existing use of the land but to add a storey to the building and to request adjustments to the required side yard setbacks.
A Site Plan Approval application is expected be submitted this fall.
