Netflix thriller filmed at Mississauga restaurant and southern Ontario towns

Those with a keen eye may recognize a Mississauga restaurant and other Ontario locations in a Netflix thriller released this fall.

Wayward, a mystery thriller starring Mae Martin, Toni Collette, Sarah Gadon, was filmed in southern Ontario, Netflix said in its new Netflix in Your Neighbourhood post.

The story takes place in the fictional town of Tall Pines, where nothing is what it seems. After an escape attempt from an academy for “troubled teens”, two students join forces with a new local police officer, unearthing the town’s dark and deeply rooted secrets.

The limited series, which premiered at TIFF in September, was released on Netflix on Sept. 25.

Netflix said the series was filmed in Mississauga, Milton, Toronto, Dundas, Millbrook, Guelph and Ashburn.

“Key scenes from the show were shot at Aristotle’s Steak & Seafood House in Mississauga and Kelso Conservation Area in Milton,” Netflix said.

The restaurant is featured in episode six when troubled teen Leila (Alyvia Alyn Lind) delves deeper into her memories and revisits a pivotal night with her sister when the two break into a local Greek restaurant to throw a party.

A Mississauga staple for over 30 years, Aristotle’s Steak & Seafood House in Meadowvale is one of the top places in the city for seafood. The restaurant is known for its old-school fine dining experience with Greek-inspired statues and large Greek columns in the decor.

Other filming locations for the series include Rockwood Conservation Area in Guelph, Allen Lane and Needlers Lane and Downtown Millbrook, Hy-Hope Farm in Ashburn, Ted’s Restaurant in Toronto and Christie Lake Conservation Area in Dundas.
