Despite a cold, snowy forecast, motorcyclists are on the road for the Friday the 13th ride in southern Ontario.

The Friday 13th ride to Port Dover, which started in 1981, can bring hundreds of motorcyclists to the small community on Lake Erie.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for snow — up to 15 centimetres could fall in southern Ontario.

However, motorcyclists have arrived in Port Dover, Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said on X.

“Coming into Port Dover this morning, I have already seen two motorcycle operators,” Sanchuk said. “Temperatures are sitting at zero degrees; it’s a little bit cold down here.”

The roads were clear and dry around 8:30 a.m., but that can change quickly, he added.

Sanchuk asked drivers to stay alert and check blind spots for motorcyclists.

“Don’t be shocked and don’t be surprised, especially if you see motorcyclists on our roadways,” Sanchuk said. “It’s Friday the 13th and the OPP is reminding all motorists to be aware of their surroundings and to check twice it’s going to save a life. Drive and ride safely!”

A visible police presence will be maintained throughout the day in Port Dover to support public safety.

The last Friday the 13th ride was in February, and the next one is in November.
