Police urge those planning to attend the Friday the 13th event in Port Dover, Ontario, this week to stay safe.
The Port Dover event, which started in 1981, can bring hundreds of motorcyclists to the small community on Lake Erie.
While off-season events typically attract smaller crowds than those held during the summer months, an increase in both pedestrian and vehicle traffic is still expected, particularly in the downtown core, the Ontario Provincial Police said.
A visible police presence will be maintained throughout the day to support public safety and ensure a positive experience for residents and visitors alike, police said.
With winter weather conditions still a factor, drivers are strongly encouraged to stay up to date on current weather forecasts and road conditions before travelling to the area.
“Sudden changes in temperature, precipitation, and road surface conditions can create hazardous driving environments,” police said.
All drivers, including motorcycle riders, are reminded to prioritize safe driving behaviours, including:
- Driving sober
- Obeying posted speed limits
- Adjusting speed to match road and weather conditions
- Maintaining a safe following distance
- Using turn signals and signalling intentions clearly
- Remaining alert and avoiding distractions
- Wearing appropriate protective gear (for motorcyclists)
If travel conditions deteriorate or delays occur, drivers are reminded that taking extra time to arrive safely is always the better choice, police added. Arriving late is far preferable to not arriving at all.
Those who don’t want to brave the cold will have two other chances this year.
There are two other Fridays that fall on the 13th in 2026 — March 13 and Nov. 13, 2026.
Anyone who observes suspicious or criminal activity during the event is encouraged to contact the Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can also be provided through Crime Stoppers of Haldimand and Norfolk at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
