Mosquitoes Carrying West Nile Virus Found in Peel Region

Mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus have returned to the Peel Region.
Health officials announced in a statement on Tuesday (July 30) that some mosquitos tested positive for the virus.
The particular mosquitos in question were taken from the Mclaughlin Road South and Steeles Avenue West area of Brampton.
While 70 – 80 per cent of West Nile patients show no symptoms, health officials warn that people with greater health risks, such as children and elders, should be aware of the virus’ presence in the region.
Symptoms include fever, headache, and rashes and may appear up to 2 weeks after being bitten.
Residents should cover up any skin while in densely wooded areas, wear bug spray, and remove any stagnant water from the property as mosquitoes may lay eggs in it.
