Can you believe it’s almost 2021—this year has somehow managed to feel both extremely long and extremely short at the same time.

If you haven’t had time to think about what you want to accomplish yet in the new year, you’re not alone—most Canadians have yet to set goals for 2021.

According to a recent survey from Sun Life found 57 per cent of Canadians have set zero goals for the new year.

Of those who have set goals, 26 per cent are focusing on their finances, while 25 per cent want to prioritize their physical health, and 24 per cent set goals related to their mental health.

“We are living and working through the most significant health crisis of our lifetime,” Rowena Chan, President of Sun Life Financial Distributors Inc. for Canada, and SVP of Distribution, said in a news release.

“This year has tested our physical, mental, and financial limits—setting new goals could feel overwhelming for many Canadians,” she continued.

Since the onset of the pandemic, young Canadians have experienced the greatest concerns related to finances and mental health—50 per cent of Canadians between the ages of 18 and 34 reported feeling less financially secure, while 68 per cent attributed a negative impact on their mental health to the pandemic.

Additionally, 36 per cent of younger Canadians reported setting goals related to finances, while 42 per cent said they plan on focusing on their mental health.
