Volkswagen, VW atlas recall Canada

More than 17,000 vehicles have been hit with a recall in Canada and they will need to be taken to the dealership.

Transport Canada said the issue has to do with the vehicles’ rearview cameras.

“Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse,” officials said.

“A rearview camera image that doesn’t display could reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.”

The recall is from Volkswagen and involves the following models / model years:

  • ATLAS — 2024 2025 2026
  • ATLAS CROSS SPORT — 2024 2025 2026

There are 17,042 vehicles impacted in Canada.

Volkswagen will notify owners about the problem by mail.

They will be advised to take their SUV to a dealership so that the rearview camera software can be updated.

Meanwhile, another vehicle recall was issued recently that impacts more than 110,000 Ford vehicles in Canada.

In that case, officials said the issue has to do with the cars’ fuel systems.

A valve on the impacted vehicles may stick open and cause the fuel tank to deform.

That could lead to the fuel gauge reading incorrectly and there being a loss of power to the wheels.

“A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash,” officials said.

That recall involves the 2012 to 2018 (inclusive) Focus models.

Ford will also notify owners about the problem by mail and advise them to take their car to a dealership.
