WestJet worst in October 2023 for on time flights
WestJet, which operates the bulk of its flights out of Pearson Airport in Mississauga, rated the worst in North America for on-time flights in October.

Those looking to escape to sunny Mexico for a vacation now have another booking option with the announcement today (Nov. 14) that WestJet is offering weekly flights from Pearson Airport in Mississauga to the hot spot.

One week removed from a system-wide outage at Calgary-based WestJet that caused hundreds of flight delays and cancellations at Pearson and other airports, the Canadian carrier says it has resumed flights to Huatulco, Mexico.

In late August, WestJet announced the return of 17 sunny destination routes from Canadian airports during the winter, including two out of Pearson Airport.

As of Nov. 5, weekly flights from Pearson to Cayo Coco in Cuba resumed while Dec. 17 marks the return of weekly flights to Samana, Dominican Republic.

Canada’s second-largest airline had shelved the routes more than two years ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials with the airline say the return of the flights gives Canadians more travel options.

“The restart of these routes is another positive step in the restoration of our network as we solidify WestJet as the reliable, friendly and affordable airline we are known to be,” John Weatherill, WestJet executive vice-president and chief commercial officer, said earlier. “We recognize the past three winters have been disruptive to our guests’ travel plans and we look forward to reconnecting Canadians to some of the warmer destinations they have missed the most.”

WestJet said last week that it had resolved its network problems that affected customers’ flights.
