Mock Explosive Discovered at Pearson Airport

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently made an alarming discovery at Pearson Airport.

Shortly before 10:00 a.m., Peel police announced that a possible security breach at the airport was being investigated by the CBP. Police added that operations at the airport were not impacted and that there was no threat to public safety.

Now, it appears that the CBP discovered a mock Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while inspecting a traveler’s suitcase at the airport’s preclearance facility.

According to CBP, officers notified the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) and the device was swabbed for explosive capability. Fortunately, it tested negative.

Traveler processing in the preclearance area was briefly suspended while the device was tested.

The traveler with the device was scheduled to depart to Chicago’s O’Hare airport on United Airlines Flight 547.

The aircraft was thoroughly inspected and all travelers were re-screened.

Normal operations have since resumed.
