Mixed reaction to numerous Beer Store closures in Ontario: poll

Reaction is mixed to the numerous Beer Store closures that are happening in Ontario.

In a poll published last week, INsauga.com asked readers if they will miss the Beer Store as more locations shut down.

There are dozens of stores that are set to shut down in the coming weeks, with numerous closures that have already happened.

Of the responses, as of Tuesday evening, around 52.5 per cent said yes, they would miss the locations.

Around 47.5 per cent said no.

The closures come amid the expanded alcohol marketplace in Ontario.

Last year, Ontario’s alcohol marketplace expanded greatly, allowing thousands of convenience stores, as well as additional grocery stores, to sell booze, except for spirits.

A total of 30 Beer Store locations are set to close on July 6, July 20, and Aug. 10.

On Monday, the company announced that it is closing 10 more locations on Aug. 24, bringing the total to 40 over the summer.
