The City of Mississauga is stepping up its fight against speeding and aggressive driving.

City council has approved several of what it says will be effective traffic calming measures and programs to reduce speeding and make the streets safer.

“Speeding and aggressive driving continues to be an issue in our city and community,” said Ward 11 Coun. Brad Butt in his monthly E-newsletter. “Council and city staff take this very seriously and have approved effective traffic calming measures and programs to ensure speed is managed and our roadways are safe.”

From now until the fall, the city is installing physical traffic calming devices on Bancroft Dr., from Emerson Lane to Invandale Dr., including pedestrian crossover, speed cushions and flexible bollards (short, vertical post). Speed cushions will be installed on Old Derry Rd., from Historic Trail to Gablehurst Cres.

Part of the Slow Streets Program will see flexible bollards installed this spring at Melody Dr., Symphony Crt., Newcombe Dr., Amana Pl., Early Settler Row, Ramonet Dr., Arch Rd., Hillside Dr., Elliot Parliament St. and Cruz Ave.

Automated Speed Enforcement, an automated system that uses a camera and a speed measurement device, will be installed at the following locations:

  • Swinbourne Dr. – Bancroft Dr. to Douguy Blvd. (to be completed Jan. 16, 2024)
  • Joymar Dr. – Donata Dr. to Thomas St., (started Dec. 15, 2023)
  • Church St. – Main St. to Queen St. South, (started Jan. 26, 2024)
  • Historic Trail – Peppridge Crossing to Lamplight Way (April 2024)
  • Vista Blvd. – Erin Mills Blvd. To Vista Dr. (summer 2024)
