Mississauga musicians who want to reach a new audience, and make $250 at the same time, can answer a call to have their material heard on the City of Mississauga’s 311 information line.

Music 311 is a new program that will feature Mississauga music on the 311 call queue lines, so people can choose to listen to local music while they wait for a customer service representative to take their call.

“The program will showcase the talent and diversity of Mississauga’s musicians while helping to build new audiences,” city officials say. “Music 311 also aims to enrich the caller experience by complementing the service they receive…with new musical experiences.”

The program will include a total of 16 recordings per year, with four recordings featured in each three-month period in 30-second segments. The city’s website will include accompanying information on the featured artists and their songs.

An adjudication committee will select 16 recordings each year.

Eligible recordings must meet the following criteria:

  • the musician/group must hold the copyright to the composition, performance and master recording
  • if the recording contains lyrics, they must be suitable for an all-ages audience
  • the musician/group must be based in Mississauga. If a duo or group is applying, at least half the members must be based in Mississauga

Selected musicians will receive $250 for a one-year term.

Submission deadline for Music 311 is Oct. 20, at 5 p.m.
