Tomken Road Middle School and nearby St. Thomas More Catholic School are in a hold-and-secure state as Peel Regional Police investigate a potential threat at the east Mississauga schools this morning.

The nature of the threat is not yet known, but police say there are no injuries and they’re expecting to clear the area shortly.

Police responded to the Tomken Rd./Bloor St. area schools just over an hour ago.

As of just before 11 a.m., police were still at the school, according to reports from the school. School officials wouldn’t say what the potential threat is, or reveal any other details.

Peel police say a hold-and-secure status is more of a precaution and means that no unauthorized visitors are to be allowed into the school and it’s recommended that teachers and students remain in the classroom and not roam the hallways.

UPDATE: Police have lifted the hold and secure, saying the threat was not substantiated.
