Mississauga man charged with human trafficking

Peel Regional Police say they have charged a Mississauga man with human trafficking following an assault investigation.

Investigators from the Vice, Narcotics and Street Level Organized Crime Unit have laid 22 charges on a 27-year-old man from Mississauga.

On Saturday (Nov. 2) officers from 21 Division responded to an assault call at a hotel in the area of Airport Road and Bresler Drive in Mississauga. Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, an 18-year-old woman from Mississauga suffering from minor injuries.

Jamar Ferguson, a 27-year-old man from Mississauga was charged with assault.

Further investigation revealed that since October 2018 the accused had been exploiting the victim in the sex trade and exercising control over all aspects of her life and profiting as a result.

On Monday (Nov. 4) Ferguson was charged with numerous offences including:

  • Trafficking in Persons Under the Age of 18
  • Procuring Person Under 18
  • Receiving Benefits Resulting from Trafficking Persons
  • Exercise Control
  • Withholding or Destroying Documents for the Purposes of Trafficking in Persons

Ferguson will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice for a bail hearing on Tuesday (Nov. 5).

Investigators believe there may be more victims and/or witnesses and they ask anyone with information in relation to this
