Mississauga lotto winner happy to share news of $5 million jackpot with daughter

Pauline Gadsby got some pretty great news recently. Life-changing news, in fact.

The 76-year-old Mississauga retiree collected $5 million thanks to her winning Lotto 6/49 ticket in the Feb. 2 draw.

Gadsby, who plays the lottery twice a week and also buys Instant Win tickets on occasion, said she checked her ticket with her daughter.

“I was in complete shock. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” she said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her winnings. “My daughter is my best friend, and I was happy to share this moment with her.”

Gadsby, who plans to invest her winnings, is still pinching herself in disbelief.

“It’s amazing. You never think you are going to win when you play. I play for the joy and to actually win seems unreal,” she said.

The winning ticket was purchased at Malton Variety, on Brandon Gate Dr. in Mississauga.
