Mississauga driver charged with careless driving in death of 10-year-old girl

Police have charged a Mississauga woman with the death of a young girl after a fatal collision in Vaughan last month.

On Sept. 1 around 10:45 a.m., York Regional Police say they were called to the area on Pleasant Ridge Ave. between Basie Gt. and Coltrane Dr. in Vaughn for reports of a serious collision.

When first responders arrived on scene, they found the driver of a white Hyundai Santa Fe had collided with a 10-year-old girl who had been riding a bicycle.

The child was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died of her injuries.

Police said the driver of the Hyundai, a 33-year-old woman from Mississauga, was uninjured in the crash and remained at the scene.

Thanh Loan Nguyen was charged with one count of Careless Driving Causing Death on Wednesday.

She is scheduled to appear in court in Newmarket on Feb 3, 2022.
