A Mississauga couple is planning a trip to Europe after winning $50,000 in the Ontario 49 Lottery.

Cheryl and Joseph Barbisan of Mississauga won the Ontario 49 second prize worth $50,000 in the August 27, 2022 draw, according to a press release from Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

The married couple said they’ve been playing the lottery together for 40 years.

“We play our own random numbers,” Cheryl said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up their winnings. “I scanned the ticket on the OLG App the morning after the draw and saw Big Winner come up – I was in disbelief.”

“I was smiling – and very shocked,” added Joseph.

The parents of two children plan to put their winnings toward a trip to Europe and Western Canada.

“We will also share with our children and save for retirement,” Joseph said.

The winnings will make the future a bit easier.

“This is a big blessing and makes us feel more secure,” he added.

The winning ticket was purchased at Millway Gift and Variety on Erin Mills Parkway in Mississauga.
