Police officers, paramedics and fire crews from Mississauga and Brampton paid their respects to fallen OPP Const. Grzegorz (Greg) Pierzchala early this morning.

Const. Pierzchala, 28, was shot and later died in West Haldimand Hospital.

He responded to a call for a vehicle in the ditch at Indian Line and Concession 14 of Walpole, a remote road near Hagersville on Tuesday (Dec. 27). He was approaching the suspected stolen pickup truck found in a ditch when he was shot.

The suspects, a man and woman, in the shooting were later caught and placed in custody.

Pierzchala had been with the OPP for one year.

A police procession carrying the fallen officer’s body left West Haldimand Hospital just before midnight on Dec. 27, en route to Toronto.

Peel Regional Police tweeted around 1 a.m. today (Dec. 28) that officers, OPP and Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services, Brampton Fire and Emergency Services and Peel Paramedics stood on a bridge at the Mississauga Road and Highway 407 overpass as the procession passed through Mississauga.

“We stand united. Rest easy,” Peel Regional Police tweeted.
