A Milton woman has died in a wrong-way crash on Highway 401.

Emergency crews rushed to a two-vehicle collision in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 at Guelph Line in Milton yesterday (May 5) around 3:30 a.m., OPP said in a press release.

A 28-year-old woman from Milton was reportedly driving westbound in the eastbound lanes when her vehicle collided with a sedan driven by a 22-year-old man from Brampton, OPP said.

The female driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The male driver, who was the lone occupant in his vehicle, was transported to a Toronto area hospital in life-threatening condition, police said.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed between Highway 6 and Appleby Line for several hours yesterday.

The investigation is continuing. Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call the Mississauga OPP at 905-278-6131.

This crash follows another wrong-way collision that left four people dead in Whitby.
