Oakville’s Madeline Schizas is Canada’s lone entry in the women’s competition at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in France.

The 19-year-old, who trains at the Milton Skating Club under coaches Nancy Lemaire and Derek Schmidt, is one of 13 skaters representing Canada.

The 2022 Beijing Olympian is the current Canadian champion after winning gold at the 2022 Canadian National Skating Championships. Schizas placed 19 last month at the Olympic Games.

This marks the second time White Oaks Secondary School graduate will be taking to the ice at the world championships.

She finished 13 in 2021 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Canada will have eight entries at worlds, including two in men, one in women, two in pairs and three in ice dance.

The event runs through to March 27 in Montpellier, France.
