A 48-year-old Milton man with a lifetime driving ban is facing five charges after he was stopped by a proactive Halton police officer.
The officer was conducting RIDE enforcement in Milton on Nov. 15 at 8:30 p.m. and noticed a vehicle leaving a pub.
A traffic stop was initiated at Martin St. and Mill St.
The officer asked the driver to provide a sample of his breath on the roadside screening device.
The man registered a ‘fail’ and was arrested.
The suspect was transported to the police station, where he allegedly refused to provide a breath sample.
He’s also accused of providing a false name and date of birth.
Officers figured out the man’s real identity and checked their database.
It turns out he’s prohibited from driving for life, Canada-wide, for impaired driving and failing to provide a breath sample.
There were also two outstanding arrest warrants from two other provinces.
Randolph Laplante was held for bail on the following charges: refuse to provide breath sample; obstruct police; two counts of driving while disqualified; possession of a controlled substance.
The vehicle – which doesn’t belong to the man – was impounded for 45 days.
