A Milton councillor has launched a fundraiser page to raise awareness and funds for mental health.

Zeeshan Hamid, Regional Councillor for Ward 4, is encouraging the community to sponsor his 3,500 kilometer trek around Lake Superior via motorcycle to raise money for mental health.

“Gichi-gami, also known as Lake Superior, is the largest freshwater lake by surface area. I’ll ride a motorcycle around the lake during Victoria Day long weekend to raise money for mental health,” reads Hamid’s post on Twitter.

The fundraiser’s goal is to raise a total of $3,000, with 100 per cent of funds going directly towards helping fund 30 hours of mental health therapy.

So far, over $1,700 has been raised.

“Finances are a major barrier for some mental health services. Let’s fund 30 hours of therapy in hopes to remove that barrier for folks who cannot afford therapy fees,” wrote Hamid on the fundraiser page.

Donations are being accepted from now until May 20, 2022.
